GENEVA, N.Y.—Two William Smith tennis players were among the student-athletes honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Juniors Erinn Cain (Palmyra-Macedon/Palmyra, N.Y.) and Tara Ware (Avon/Avon, Conn.) were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Cain, who earned her second straight ITA Scholar-Athlete designation, posted a 9-4 singles record this season, raising her career mark to 15-6. Ware notched a 16-8 singles mark this season, boosting her career record to 33-16. Both players were named to the 2005-06 Liberty League Women’s Tennis All-Academic team.
William Smith closed out the 2005-06 season with a 13-6 record, one win shy of the program record for most wins in a season, most recently matched by the 2004-05 squad.
To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the academic year, and have been enrolled at her current school for at least two semesters.
